Website design that celebrates San Francisco’s natural beauty
Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy
Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy (GGNPC) protects San Francisco area parks by caring for trails, facilities, and natural ecosystems while providing education and community programs to ensure that the parks can be enjoyed by all.
GGNPC partnered with Kanopi Studios to design and develop a responsive Drupal site with a unified content structure that could connect more than ten internal departments. Additional goals included making the site flexible and easy to maintain for the GGNPC team and providing a stellar mobile experience to support active park users while on the go.
During the user experience strategy phase, Kanopi focused on streamlining navigation and organizing content to support GGNPC’s wealth of events, programs, initiatives, and articles. The team created an interactive prototype for desktop and mobile to test key user paths and navigation, ensuring that users would be able to find the information they need.
Design elements created a strong sense of place, making use of rich, localized imagery intended to inspire residents and visitors to get out and enjoy the parks.
During the development phase, the team focused on building a flexible, scalable model to make it easier for the GGNPC team to maintain the site while allowing for future growth. Kanopi’s developers also seamlessly integrated third-party mapping systems to help users find trails and facilities without being directed away from the website.
The result? A clearer, more beautiful, and more enriching website experience for park lovers and an enduring resource for the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. The metrics validate the improved experience, as there was a 25% increase overall for all the goals and conversions set by the team at the start of the project, including email signups, volunteer signups, and time on site.
